I was sitting at the back of a workshop while my very English colleague presented.  She thought everyone should be able to understand everything in English, so made no allowance for strange idioms.

As she declared “You could do this until the cows come home”, my neighbour leaned across to me: “Richard why are there cows?  Where is their home and why are they going there now? Who do the cows belong to?”

Idioms can be very confusing so be careful about using them with international groups.
